Justice Circles

Families and Businesses/Organizations

A Circle is an indigenous practice used worldwide to build community and address conflict. It's a relational approach that fosters dialogue, consensus, and transformation.

How Circles Work

In a Circle, a trained Keeper creates a safe space for respectful dialogue, promoting collective wisdom and insight. This powerful process:

  • Builds connections and community

  • Supports healing and conflict resolution

  • Fosters personal and cultural transformation

  • Creates balance and equity of voice

Logistics:

  • Voluntary participation

  • One time or ongoing meetings (1 hour 30 minutes each)

  • Curricula addressing specific topics, including:

  • Effective communication & conflict resolution

  • Self-care, boundaries & codependency

  • Positive coping mechanisms

  • Grief

Circle Structure:

  1. Speak only when holding the talking piece

  2. Talking piece moves in one direction

  3. Right to pass

  4. Share only from your own lived experience

This intentional structure fosters deep listening, empathy, and meaningful connection among participants.
